GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide (His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys) and long-acting ghrelin receptor agonist that binds to GHS-R1a in the anterior pituitary and hypothalamus, activating the phospholipase C pathway to increase intracellular calcium and release growth hormone (GH). With a molecular weight of 873.03 g/mol, it demonstrates robust GH-releasing capacity and significant neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties, protecting brain tissue from ischemia in stroke models and reducing neuronal apoptosis in Parkinson’s disease models by upregulating local IGF-1. It also plays a role in tissue repair by interacting with CD36 receptors to reduce inflammation and fibrosis, improve wound healing, and influence sexual behavior and memory consolidation.
