Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) that acts as a potent GnRH receptor agonist, initially stimulating pituitary LH and FSH release for a temporary surge in sex hormones, but with continuous exposure causing profound receptor downregulation and sustained suppression to castrate levels. With a molecular weight of 1311.47 g/mol, its initial stimulatory phase is studied for kick-starting the HPG axis in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, while its suppressive action is a cornerstone of research for hormone-dependent cancers like prostate and breast cancer. It also reduces lesion size in endometriosis models and partially reverses age-related thymic involution by improving thymocyte proliferative capacity.
