Cardiogen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg) that penetrates cells including cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts to directly influence gene expression and protein synthesis, activating genes encoding cytoskeletal and nuclear matrix proteins fundamental for cell structure and survival. With a molecular weight of 489.5 g/mol, it significantly reduces mortality and decreases necrotic zone size in myocardial damage models by stimulating cardiomyocyte proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis through decreased p53 expression. It stimulates reparative processes and improves cardiomyocyte metabolism, normalizes signaling factor expression in aging fibroblasts for prostate cancer research, and may exert opposite pro-apoptotic effects on tumor cells by inducing changes in their vascular supply.
