Fragment 176-191, also known as AOD 9604, is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of human Growth Hormone (hGH), encompassing the last 16 amino acids. This ‘lipolytic fragment’ was developed to isolate the fat-burning properties of hGH without impacting insulin sensitivity or IGF-1 levels, and is stabilized by a disulfide bond between two cysteine residues. Research suggests it promotes fat loss by increasing the density and sensitivity of beta-3 adrenergic receptors (ADRB3) on adipocytes, with clinical trials like METAOD005 indicating a notable reduction in fat tissue mass over 12 weeks. Beyond metabolism, studies have explored its potential in cartilage regeneration, where in models of knee osteoarthritis it was associated with improved cartilage repair and reduced lameness, particularly when combined with hyaluronic acid.
